Gustavo Menezes and Bruno Senna took the top spot at the wheel in the number 1 Rebellion-Gibson R-13 with a combined average that edged the number 6 Team LNT Ginettas of Charlie Robertson and Mike Simpson by over a second.
Senna was bullish with Rebellions race prospects, believing the Swiss outfit still had some speed to burn.
“For the conditions it felt the car was gripping better”, said Senna. “But I felt that I still left something on the track today.”
“We know the degradation for the tyres is very high here, so we need to make sure the tyres are surviving the double stints. We know the Toyotas will have a strong race with regards to tyre degradation, we saw that their average pace so far has been quite flat, so I guess they don’t have the peak pace but their average pace is strong. Hopefully we can deal with traffic as well as them”.
Egor Orudzhev and Ben Hanley finished third, ahead of the number 7 Toyota TS050 HYBRID of Kamui Kobayashi and Mike Conway. The pair were nearly three seconds off the ultimate pace and a further second ahead of the sister Toyota entry driven by Kazuki Nakajima and Brendon Hartley.
In LMP2, Nicolas Lapierre and Antonin Borga took pole in the Cool Racing ORECA-Gibson 07, heading the number 38 Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECA of Will Stevens and Gabriel Aubry. The United Autosports ORECA of Filipe Albuquerque and Phil Hanson finished third.
In GTE Pro, Kevin Estre and Michael Christensen put the number 92 Porsche 911 RSR on pole by four tenths ahead of the number 95 Aston Martin Vantage GTE shared by Nicki Thiim and Marco Sorensen – who in turn edged their sister car of Maxime Martin and Alex Lynn by one-hundredths of a second.
Matteo Cairoli and Egidio Perfetti took the GTE Am pole in the number 56 Porsche 911 RSR Project 1 Porsche ahead of Paul Dalla Lana and Ross Gunn in the number 98 Aston Martin. Third was the number 77 Dempsey-Proton Porsche of Matt Campbell and Christian Ried.
