Gustavo Menezes has boosted ’s hopes for this weekend’s 4 Hours of Shanghai by topping an opening practice in China where Toyota failed to dent the top three positions.

Menezes‘ 1:48.761 in the number 1 Rebellion R13 Gibson was enough to edge both Team LNT Ginetta G60-LT-P1 AERs, which had dominated most of Free Practice One.

Ben Hanley took second in the number 5 Ginetta (after recovering from fuel pressure issues) ahead of the number 6 sister car of Mike Simpson.

Still adjusting to the Success Handicaps placed on the Japanese squad after their victory in Fuji, the number 7 Toyota was 1.324 seconds off the pace in fourth and the number 8 sister entry finishing behind the leading LMP2 Cool Racing Oreca 07 Gibson of Nico Lapierre. Second was the Racing Team Nederland of Giedo Van Der Garde, edging United Autosports in third.

The number 91 Porsche 911 RSR of Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz headed GTE Pro – seven-hundredths of a second ahead of the number 95 Aston Martin Vantage GTE of Marco Sorensen and Nikki Thiim, while the number 51 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE entry of Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado took third.

The number 56 Team Project 1 Porsche of Matteo Cairoli was fastest in GTE-Am, ahead of the number 98 Aston Martin of Paul Dalla Lana, Darren Turner and Ross Gunn.
