Toyota managed to break Rebellion’s grasp to secure a front-row lockout for the 6 Hours of Fuji, but not without a sizeable gap between the TS050 Hybrids.

Brendon Hartley and Kazuki Nakajima’s average time of 1m25.013 seconds not only secured pole for the number 8 Toyota, but was a massive eight tenths faster than the number 7 sister car of Jose Maria Lopez and Kamui Kobayashi.

Rebellion – despite splitting the Japanese squad throughout Friday had to settle for being the est of the non-hybrid entries with Gustavo Menezes and Norman Nato’ number 1, R-13 finishing a similar margin back to the number 7 Toyota.

Ginetta’s number 5 entry was fourth, but their sister entry 6 car was unable to record an average time when Charlie Robertson spun with three minutes left on the clock. Kobayashi was another to have his best lap scuppered before the session was red-flagged

Ho-Pin Tung and Gabriel Aubry took LMP2 pole in their JOTA Sport-run Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca 07. Both JCDC entries looked set for a front-row lockout, until a late flier from Filipe Albuquerque elevated United Autosports’ Oreca to second, ahead of Roberto Gonzalez and Anthony Davidson.

A last ditch effort from Richard Lietz and Gianmaria Bruni secured pole in GTE Pro for Porsche ahead of the 51 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo of Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calada. Nicki Thiim and Marco Sorensen rounded out the top three in the number 95 Aston Martin Vantage GTE.

Ben Keating and Felipe Fraga put their Project 1 Porsche on pole in GTE Am, edging the TF Sport Aston entryof Salih Yoluc and Jonny Adam by a mere eight-hundredths of a second. Ross Gunn looked to have the number 98 Aston in the running until a spin for Paul Dalla Lana dropped them to third.
