The DS team has confirmed that will join the team on October 1st, partnering with current Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne for the 2019/20 season.

Following Andre Lotterer’s switch to the newly formed Porsche team, Techeetah swooped to sign da Costa after the Portuguese driver opted to end his long-running association with German manufacturer .

Da Costa’s move to Techeetah means he departs the BMW factory programme for which he as driven in multiple series in recent years such as WEC, DTM and Formula E with the BMW-run Andretti team.

The Portuguese told E-Racing Magazine earlier this season that “winning a championship with BMW” was his goal and that the German manufacturer “were the ones who picked me when I wasn’t wanted [by Red Bull], so I give these guys a lot of credit.”

It’s thought, however, that BMW’s decision to exit WEC after just one season has played a big role in da Costa’s decision to sever ties with the manufacturer to team up with his former Aguri Formula E boss Mark Preston.

Da Costa said of his move, “Getting the opportunity to join a double championship-winning team in such a highly competitive motorsport category like Formula E it’s very rare. It was a very hard decision to leave my current position but it’s an opportunity I just couldn’t say no to and I’m very excited to join Jean-Éric and everyone at Techeetah.”

Two-time champion Vergne will already be familiar with his new team-mate as the pair were part of the Red Bull junior programme together earlier in their career.

“We’ve been friends for a long time, and we’ve been part of the same motorsport program in the past so it’s great to be able to work together again,” Vergne said. “He will be a great addition to the team.”
