Testing for season eight of the FIA WEC Championship began yesterday with teams making final preparations ahead of the 2019/2020 season.

Kazuki Nakajima was quickest in the number 8 TS050 HYBRID, usurping teammate Jose Maria Lopez, who topped the first session with a time of 1.31:229 seconds.

Nakajima’s time of 1.30:114 was half a tenth up on Toyota newcomer Brendon Hartley in the number 8 sister entry.

The lead number 1 Rebellion R-13 of Norman Nato was nine tenths down on Toyota – three tenths ahead of the number 3 sister car of Gustavo Menezes while the Team LNT run Ginetta was just under two seconds off the pace in fifth.

United Autosports was the best in LMP2, with Paul di Resta setting the pace in the number 22 Oreca, three tenths ahead of Thomas Laurent was second-fastest in the number 36 Signatech Alpine Oreca and the number 37 Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca of Gabriel Aubry.

Miguel Molina took the number 71 488 GTE Ferrari to the top of GTE Pro, a mere eight hundredths of a second ahead of Michael Christensen in the new Porsche 911 RSR-19, while Project 1 dominated GTE Am with their older generation 911’s ahead of the number 54 AF Corse Ferrari.
