The session was marred by several incidents, four of which brought out the red flag and briefly halted track running.

Heavy rain at the beginning of the session forced race control to bring out the red flag early. Then, at 16:46 local time, SMP Racing’s Stephan Sarrazin crashed the #17 BR01 LMP1 into the barriers at Blanchimont (Turn 16). Sarrazin was unhurt and returned to pitlane, while the car was loaded onto a recovery lorry and transported back to the pits.

The red flag was waved again at 17:26 local time when the #50 Larbre Competition LMP2 Ligier JSP217 stopped with Nicholas Boulle at the wheel.

Finally, with one minute to go, the #36 Signatech Alpine A470 LMP2 stopped on the circuit with Pierre Thiriet at the wheel, bringing out the red flag for a fourth time and effectively ended the free practice session early.

Yellow flags were displayed with 15 minutes left in the session when Matteo Carioli went slowly in the #77 Proton Porsche 911 RSR.
