Envision Virgin Racing driver, Sam Bird set the fastest time at the Ad Diriyah in-season test on Sunday. 



Bird dominated the afternoon session with a 1.09.668 to record the current unofficial record at the Ad Diriyah street circuit.


Jean-Eric Vergne placed second, one tenth away, while Oliver Rowland finished third, half a second slower than Bird.

Stoffel Vandoorne finished in fourth place for HWA and completed the most laps during the afternoon session, but caused a red flag in the closing stages of the day. Evans placed fifth with Jaguar.


Robin Frijns set the best time of the morning session in Riad with a1.10:544, itself a notable improvement in comparison to the qualifying session – albeit set in wet conditions.

Behind Frijns were Oliver Rowland and Carmen Jordá, who shared the Nissan eDams car. Both drivers both were within eight-tenths off the Dutchman’s best time.


Mitch Evans placed third, followed by Gary Paffett (HWA) and Alexander Sims (BMW), in fourth and fifth, respectively.



De Silvestro, in a Venturi, set a best time of 1.12.048 to finish tenth. The Swiss driver, who regularly competes in australian Supercars Championship, climbed back into a after two years of absence.


Tatiana Calderón, meanwhile, was 12th with the DS Techeetah while Jamie Chadwick was 14th for NIO after battery issues in the morning.

Amna Al Quabaisi was the only driver not make it to the track in the afternoon session after making contact against the wall with the back of her Virgin an turn 17 during the morning session. Team mate Tom Dillmann crashed his NIO in turn 3 during the afternoon session.

Other red flags were caused by Max Guenther when his Geox Dragon was stopped on track, whil Nico Mueller also collected the wall at Turn 11.
