Swiss technology company ABB, title sponsor of the Formula E championship, has named former Andretti racer as its global ambassador ahead of the new season which kicks off this weekend.

The 30-year-old Swiss native will combine her new role this season with test and development driver duties for the Venturi team, the first in the series to appoint a female team principal in Susie Wolff.

“I’m delighted to be part of such an exciting partnership with ABB and Formula E,” said De Silvestro, “particularly as the Championship is growing in strength every year. Its values relating to sustainability and mobility, among many others, are such important topics for all of us and I’m proud to be able to contribute to their shared mission.”

Frank Muehlon, Head of ABB’s Global Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure, added. “We are delighted to welcome Simona De Silvestro as a new ABB ambassador of Formula E. As a seasoned racing driver in several motorsports, she is an ideal person to champion the power and potential of e-mobility.

“In season 5, with her support, ABB will continue to push the boundaries of e-mobility as part of our commitment to run the world without consuming the earth.”

De Silvestro, who previously raced in Formula E with the Andretti team, joins her fellow Swiss compatriot Sebastien Buemi as an ABB ambassador, and together, the pair will help to promote ABB’s role in pioneering new sustainable technologies at various races this coming season.

A busy 2019 awaits for Silvestro, who is expected to make her debut in the Daytona 24hrs in January,  before juggling her Formula E commitments with a full-season race drive in the Australian Supercars championship with Nissan.
