Nabil Jeffri, Jazeman Jaafar and Weiron Tan made history at Fuji to become the first all-Malaysian LMP2 class winners for Jackie Chan DC Racing, heading a 1-2 for the team in the Gibson-powered Oreca 07’s.
Despite controlling most of the race, the number 37 entry had a tough opening stint with the vastly experienced Anthony Davidson in the the DragonSpeed entry.
“It was a hard battle because of the tricky conditions at the beginning”, said Jaafar.
“I had a battle with Anthony in the first three laps and then started overheating my inters as the track was getting dryer”.
“We pitted early to go to slicks and that capitalized our lead. It’s been a great weekend. We slowly chipped away during Free Practice and all in all our averages were strong”.
Having taken a pole at Silverstone, a win was always going to be the logival next step for the emerging Malaysian crew, but not to be content with their first win, the number 37 side of the garage is now aiming for the LMP2 WEC crown.
“The battle for the championship is what we really want”, said Jaafar.
“This is a good motivation for us to work harder for the rest of the championship“, added team mate Weiron Tan.
“Winning races is good, but the championship is the bigger picture. That’s what we aim for”, concurred Jeffri.
