Toyota GAZOO Racing’s Jose Maria Lopez and Mike Conway secured pole position in the #7 Toyota Hybrid TS050 for Sunday’s FIA with an average lap time of 1:36.895.

The result makes it the third consecutive pole position for the team and the first for the #7 car. Kazuki Nakajima and Fernando Alonso took 2nd place in the #8. The sister car was 0.411s behind the #7.

SMP Racing had the fastest non-hybrid prototypes during qualifying. Both BR Engineering BR1 AERs qualified third and fourth respectively, with the #11 car of Mikhail Aleshin, Vitaly Petrov and Jenson Button ahead. Rebellion Racing were next on the grid, followed by the DragonSpeed and ByKolles Racing entries.

The 20 minute long prototype qualifying session was briefly halted when Frits van Eerd beached the #29 JUMBO Team Nederland Dallara P217-Gibson into the gravel trap at Copse with about 5 minutes and 20 seconds left.

In LMP2, Jackie Chan DC Racing’s Oreca 07 Gibsons dominated the session with a 1-2 lockout.  The all-Malaysian driver lineup of Nabil Jeffri, Jazeman Jafaar and Weiron Tan took pole in the #37 Oreca-07 Gibson ahead of the sister #38 car. Third was the Signatech Alpine entry – some 1.5 seconds off the ultimate class pace.

In GTE Pro, the #66 Ford Performance GT GTE, in the hands of Olivier Pla and Stefan Mucke, narrowly edged out the pair of Aston Martin Vantage AMR’s for pole with an average lap time of 1:55.727.

The #56 Team Project 1 911 RSR took LMGTE Am honours ahead of the #77 Dempsey Proton Porsche 911 RSR and the TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage.
