has expressed his delight at winning his home race in Berlin, saying it felt “so special” to secure a one-two finish with teammate Lucas di Grassi.

Abt completed a perfect day for the team by securing pole position, win and the fastest lap of the race, with di Grassi alongside him on the podium.

After being stripped of a win at the opening round in Hong Kong, Abt finally claimed his first Formula E victory in Mexico City, and his result today moves him up to fourth in the drivers’ championship ahead of teammate di Grassi.

“I keep saying that I have these weeks where I just feel like good stuff is going to happen. I had this feeling here, when I look around it’s so special. There’s so much positive energy from everyone around, from the fans,” said Abt.

“I’ve had work to do, a lot of media stuff, so it’s been an exhausting week but I felt confident. I think the qualifying lap, there was not much more in it and it was really spot on. From there on I knew we can win this because so far qualifying has been a real struggle for us.

“Actually to win it, with the fastest lap and maximum points, after I saw last time with JEV how happy he looked after his home race win, to get a one-two with Lucas also on the podium is so special for Audi and for everyone in the team.

“Finally to get a result like this, I’m just thankful and very grateful.”

Approaching the half-way point in the race, Abt held a 3.5s lead over di Grassi but that was cut to less than a second during the pitstops. Abt explained in the post-race press conference how he reacted to seeing his advantage slashed.

“Actually it was not the pitstop that was slow, it was just that Buemi came in and I wanted to leave so they had to hold me in the garage to avoid an unsafe release. We lost a lot of time and I had Lucas right behind me.

“In the first few out laps I didn’t feel very good in the car, it was sliding quite a lot. Of course, you don’t want to give a home win away, so I just tried to push and all of a sudden the car just felt very good and I felt very confident.

“I was able to increase the gap and bring the car home.
