The NIO Formula E team has confirmed that its Chinese reserve driver Ma Qing Hua will drive for the team at the upcoming Paris ePrix, in place of .

 

Filippi has scored just one point so far this season which came at the opening round in Hong Kong, and finished in 13th place at his rome race in Rome on the weekend.

 

 

Ex-Caterham F1 tester Ma has previous experience in Formula E having appeared for Team Aguri during the 2015/16 season and for Techeetah at the start of the 2016/17 season. In seven ePrix starts, Ma is yet to score a point with a best result of 11th at the 2016 London ePrix.

 

As official reserve driver, Ma tested for NIO last summer and has conducted simulator work for the team in recent months.

 

“First of all, I am really happy and honoured to be back in the cockpit racing for NIO Formula E Team,” said Ma.

 

“Thank you to NIO for this opportunity; I am really looking forward to racing again, against some of the top drivers in the world. I will do my best to achieve the best result I can and I will see you all in Paris.”

 

Ma’s appearance coincides with a NIO promotional event taking place at the Auto China exhibition in Shanghai during the weekend of the Paris event. 

 

Filippi is expected to return to the cockpit for the Berlin ePrix in May, and the Italian confirmed to eRacing Magazine that he is still part of the team and will conduct simulator duties this week at the team’s Oxford base.
