The has completed a preliminary demonstration run near the DS Performance factory in Versailles, France ahead of the first official test of the Formula E’s new machinery next week.

FIA President Jean Todt and Formula E founder and CEO Alejandro Agag unveiled Formula E’s Gen 2 car on Tuesday at the Geneva Motor Show.

With a top speed of 280 km/h (174mph) and the ability to travel double the distance of the current Formula E car, the Gen2 car eliminates the mid-race car swap from Season Five onward.

“It was great to see the DS E-tense FE 19 run at our track in Satory”, said DS Performance diretcor Xavier Mestelan-Pinon.

“The car’s different assemblies had previously been tested on the bench but this is the first time the fully assembled car has turned a wheel. Starting it was a rewarding moment for the team’s technical staff. It’s an occasion you never forget.”
