Fresh from their podium in Hong Kong, Jaguar Panasonic racing showed good pace in this mornings practice for the Marrakesh ePrix.
Speaking with Nicki Shields, Panasonic Jaguar Director James Barclay was quietly confident heading into the weekend.
“This season was all about taking a step forward”, said Barclay. “It’s great to see the day is starting well but there’s a long way to go yet – it looks like we’ve got good early pace so we’ll see how the rest of the sessions go”.
With plenty of run of and fast hairpins, Marrakesh is a different proposition from the type of street circuits that Formula E usually run on, so Jaguar – like all the teams – will be focusing on keeping momentum and not being to aggressive with its energy consumption.
“[Marrakesh] is a more traditional race circuit in some sense, so chassis-wise it requires something slightly different” said Barclay.
“We don’t have the really tight corners and apexes of Hong Kong, so it’s all about momentum and keeping the car flowing”.
Jaguar enjoyed excellent qualifying speed in Hong Kong, but used more energy than its immediate opposition during the race – a factor that Barclay is well aware of and keen to rectify this weekend.
“Obviously we know the circuit is going to be an energy challenge for everyone so a lot of the preparation this morning is about what the race is going to throw at us and making sure we’re going to be in it at the end”.
