Formula E have announced their first title partner – the ABB Group.
The partnership will see the series labelled as the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, was revealed at a special event at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
The ABB Group integrates electric vehicles into the transportation system and is among the very few who have expertise in large-scale power transmission and know how to tie the charging systems into the Industrial Internet of Things. We have created nationwide fast-charging networks in several countries, including Estonia, Denmark and the Netherlands.
Whilst Formula E and ABB will benefit from shared ideas and technology, the association hopes to make electric cars more cost-effective than internal combustion engine and therefore more attractive to buyers.
“Global warming is threatening to transform the planet. Many leaders are doing a fantastic job in raising the alarm, but we need more. We need environmental action to transform to make a solid business case” said Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag.
“Today, two pioneers are uniting. ABB and Formula E are a natural fit at the forefront of the latest electrification and digital technologies” said ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer.
“Together, we will write the next phase of this exciting sports activity and foster high-performance teams. Digital software allows us to use our grid in a reliable way. Like in Formula One, we’ll have innovation to use in the commercial world.”
