Former F1 driver will test the Spark STR01 demonstration car at during testing in Valencia this week, as he evaluates his options for a full-time return to racing.

Indonesian Haryanto competed in 12 Grands Prix before losing his F1 seat due to budget issues and has not raced in any series since July of last year. With support from a huge fanbase, Haryanto is keen to return to racing as soon as possible and has his eye on a move to Formula E.

Speaking to eRacing, he said: “I am going to run the Team Spark car, so it will be one of the [official] Formula E cars.

“The purpose of this test is to get a taste of what Formula E is like. I’ve not been in a race car for almost a year, so it’s good to be back in the racing world and to test the Formula E car will be a new experience for me. It’s a challenge, and I have new things to learn, but I think Formula E could be an option for me for next season.”

With the start of the Formula E season just two months away, Haryanto admits time is running out to join the series this season and is focusing now on securing a deal to race in season five.

“It looks like most of the teams already have their lineups, but still there are possibilities,” he said, “I’m still looking. I don’t know yet which way I’m going to go, but the main thing is that I want to be again next year to race somewhere.”
