German car manufacturer BMW have confirmed that they will head into season 5 with a full works team, ran my Andretti Autosport.
The premium car manufacturer has been working with Andretti in the series since 2016, and did confirm it was evaluating a full works programme last September, where they will develop the inverter, battery and control electronics for the race team.
It was also accepted by the FIA as a powertrain provider for the 2018/19 season onwards in March, but previously it was not announced which team would run its manufacturer entry up until now.
“Formula E has developed fantastically as a racing series and, as a new, technology-based project, is perfectly suited to the BMW Group and BMW Motorsport,” said BMW motorsport boss Jens Marquardt.
He adds “because it is very important for us to demonstrate our technological expertise, we have shown a firm commitment to this project through the registration of BMW AG as an official manufacturer and are facing up to the growing competition there.”
